I’ve been remiss in my duties to this here website as of late. If I cared at all, I’d offer apologies. But sometimes, real life gets in the way. Seeing as how part of real life means visiting my family this weekend, I’ll not be sorry for that in the slightest.
My nephew turned four years old today, and I am happy to report the festivities here in Mississippi were just grand. Trampolines and pools and pizza and soft drinks in every color of the rainbow combined to elevate the celebration to lofty levels of kindergartner indulgence never before seen. It was a barn burner of galactic proportions.
Plainly put, old Uncle bitterman is tired.
And as a distant cold front paints the warm Southern summer sky with streaks of lightning, I am thankful to be here with my family and sheltered from the gathering storm clouds by the sturdy little house of my youth. The fireflies in the woods beyond my window are blinking their customary welcome. If I could only thank them for their loyal hospitality……
Bless you Mississippi. It’s good to be home.
